Members and the public are invited to bring in their family clocks and watches to find out some of the history behind their timepiece and what the value might be. The museum will also be open. Coffee and desserts will be served.

Cuyahoga’s Child Growing Up in the Valley of the Crooked River
Columbus author Jeff Knowles is a keen observer of people, places and things. Both historical and heart warming, he takes us on a journey through the forest, canals, classrooms, factories, homes and ball fields of his homes in Ohio’s Cuyahoga Valley. This journey includes a stop in Solon, Ohio. Enjoy a wonderful night of local memories. Bring a pie to share.

We’ve Been Skunked
Skunks are unusual, funny, amazing, friendly animals that they have a bad reputation. Join the volunteers from Skunk Haven, located in N. Ridgeville, Ohio for a wonderful presentation to learn about wild and pet skunks. We promise it won’t be a “stinker”. Live skunks will visit. Please visit www.skunkhaven.net for a list of donations needed to keep this rescue shelter operating. Great program for ALL ages.

Family Game Night
Checkers anyone? Join us for a night of old fashioned fun. Games like Monopoly, Chinese Checkers, Chess, Old Maid and many others will be on hand to play. You can also bring your families favorite game to play. It sure will be a fun filled night. It’s also Cookie Night, bring a dozen cookies to share and We’ll supply the cold milk

Rededication of The President Garfield Stained Glass Window
Join SHS for the unveiling of the 100+year old President Garfield window, which has been restored to its full grandeur and moved back to its original spot. President Garfield, portrayed by Mentor resident Ed Haney will attend and mingle among attendees. Light refreshments will be served after the unveiling. Museum will be open.

Stop by to see our booth at the annual Solon Home Days, sit a while and reminisce about Solon past days. Solon related items will be on sale.

6th Annual Community Flea Market
Time to clean out your garage, attic and basement for items that you can sell to someone else. Sellers will be charged $5 per parking spot to sell their treasures. Reservations are needed, please contact SHS President. Museum will be open 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. NO rain date. Space is limited make your reservation soon. Refreshments will be available.

Ice Cream Sundae Night
History of Infectious Diseases
Did you know only a hundred years ago the leading causes of death in America were pneumonia, tuberculosis and influenza? Join us for the informative talk as noted medical lecturer and patient advocate Tom Strong discusses the history of infectious diseases and the various drugs, treatments and vaccines that have evolved in the last century helping to eradicate these deadly germs. Join us for an Ice Cream Sundae after the program.

The History of the Cleveland Mather Family
The Mather family was instrumental in moving Cleveland from a back woods frontier town to a first class world renowned city. Their many accomplishment, achievements and lasting impacts on the city will be discussed. Solon resident Chris Whipple is a 7th generation Clevelander, which grew up in Berea, Ohio has had a life long love of Cleveland, its people and it underappreciated treasures. Chris began writing stories abort Cleveland roughly 10 years ago and will soon have a book published in 2017.

Museum will be open 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Visit the museum and watch the City of Solon turn on the holiday lights for the 2017 holiday season.

Northeast Ohio Lego Users Group LEGO Display and Kids Lego building contest
Join SHS for the 4th NEOLUG display, a group of adult builders formed in 2010, will set up “MOCs”, or My Own Creations. These are creations they have built that are not sets with no instructions. These “lugs” exist all over the country and the world and are comprised of adult lego builders. Come see these true pieces of art and meet there creators. NEW this year we invite children 12 years and under to enter a’ “MOC”, their own LEGO creation. A prize will be awarded.
